Cognitive behavioural therapy helps in identifying these faulty thinking patterns and replacing them with healthier and positive thinking. Exposure therapy can also be a part of the anti anxiety treatment plan. In some cases of anxiety the fear or uneasiness is caused by particular events or situations. Through exposure therapy individuals can be trained to face their fears in a controlled environment and eventually overcome the fear. The anti anxiety medication that is often prescribed for this condition includes benzodiazepines. Benzodiazepines that are prescribed include diazepam, lorazepam, clonazepam and alprozolam. Other anti anxiety drugs includes buspirone and certain selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors like Paxil, Lexapro, Prozac, Zoloft and Effexor. In some cases anti seizure medication like neurontin may also be used for treatment of anxiety. Other anti anxiety treatment option includes meditating and practicing deep breathing exercises. Those suffering from anxiety also need to take adequate rest and follow healthy lifestyle practices like exercising and sleeping well. Caffeine and illicit drugs should be avoided as these can make the anxiety worse. |
